Project Sunshine : What Is Server Side Baking?

Many of you know "Server Side Baking" will take away a job from your local PC or Laptop, and gives the job of rendering Avatars etc to the LL server "Server Side". This should make Second Life run much, much better! Test regions are operating this now, and as things progress we should all start seeing improvements.

I'm hoping this will be a big aid to photography and movie projects, where issues of avatars not rezzing can be very annoying and frustrating.  LL have termed this update process "Project Sunshine" and I've included a video above to give a demo of it.

Obviously, we're all for anything that gets people naked faster, and with 100% reliability here on The Pornstars Blog. no more "I can still see yr panties..Rebake!" during intimate times. Yay!

From LL..

We’ve been working hard on some major changes to Second Life’s Viewer and back-end infrastructure to improve the Second Life experience for all users. We’re pleased to share an update on Project Shining - an initiative that will make avatars load and rez more quickly and reliably.

We’ve tested changing of outfits, avatar swapping, and initial avatar loading into worlds, and our tests showed performance gains across the board. Bottom line, Second Life users will experience less time in “clouded” or untextured avatar states and/or completely failed bakes that require relogs. Check out this video for more about the project.
